I was a little apprehensive about buying from Aerre as there are some odd reviews out there on Google but I was honestly so impressed. I have used the real Angel many times in my life and I actually prefer Aerre’s version. It is IDENTICAL, it is just a whisper less intense which I actually prefer. This has staying power. I can smell it on my all day long. There was another Aerre perfume I purchased which didn’t have the same staying power but this one definitely does. For the price I can spray more as well and not be cautious which I love. I will be repurchasing for sure! Also just to add postage was super speedy. I got it within a week.
This scent is so beautiful ❤️. My grandmother and my aunty used to wear Angel by Mugler when I was younger and as soon as I sprayed Starburst, it brought back so many wonderful memories. My favourite scent ✨
I ordered Starburst twice actually, that’s how good it is; it’s a bit of a story.
I first smelled and fell in love with Angel by Mugler back in 2014. The first time I tried that adorable star-shaped bottle, I was so enamoured with the smell of it, I remember going back to the department store and buying it the very next day. I was a uni student at the time, and a $180 bottle of perfume wasn’t easy on my wallet, ouch 😣. But I was that obsessed with it that I found a way to justify it to myself.
Over the next few years I finished that bottle and went through another 3 more, always keeping an eye on the Chemist Warehouse shelves and buying it when it was on sale (such a gorgeous scent but so expensive).
Sometime around late 2019 or early 2020, the perfume got reformulated. I smelled the newer version and didn’t like it at all. It smelled nothing like the sweet, sticky, decadent fairy-floss confection I’d used and loved for almost a decade at that point. The original Angel was incredibly sweet, smack-you-in-the-face kind of intense, but I personally LOVED it.
I’d given up hope on finding anything that smelled like the old version of Angel until I was complaining to a friend that I was looking for a new signature fragrance.
My last bottle of the original Angel that I had been using sparingly was down to 10% & would finish soon.
It was such great luck (and great timing) that she happened to have a bottle of Starburst. She’d smelled and loved the old Angel, just like me, and handed me her bottle to try. I sprayed it on and it *immediately* transported me back to 2014, standing nervously at the very fancy Myer perfume counter with my friend Nick and smelling the GOOD stuff.
It smelled just like the original, I was so happy and impressed I pulled out my phone and ordered a bottle of Starburst on the spot. She even gave forwarded me an email she had with a 15% discount code, she’s a good friend (and a shopping enabler lol 😂).
I got my bottle of Starburst a few days later and when I opened it and smelled it, it was instantly recognisable as Angel, I was in LOVE.
But after spraying it on my clothes and wrists, I noticed that there was this spicy smell that was dominating and overpowering the whole fragrance and really blocking a lot of the underlying sweetness I was used to.
After 12 hours of wearing it (and a lot of compliments later, which was very nice 😊 ) all I could smell was that cardamom top note. Which is a great sign for the perfumes longevity/performance, but not so great for my nose. I got home that day, a bit disappointed and decided to return the bottle.
I arranged an online return, got a return label and printed it (full disclosure I had to pay $8 for my return because my original order was below the free shipping/free returns threshold). I chose to exchange my bottle of Starburst for Summer Reverie (their version of Flowerbomb by Viktor and Rolf) because this was another Aerre bottle my friend owned and I’d smelled it and was confident I’d like it. And I also had a bottle of the original Flowerbomb at home to compare it to.
The return and exchange process was pretty seamless, everything done online through an automated quiz thingy, AusPost tracking numbers both ways, return and new bottle, and I got my exchanged bottle of Summer Reverie about a week later.
About 2 days after I’d printed my return label and dropped off my bottle at the post office, I picked up the jumper I had been wearing when I first tried my bottle of Starburst. There it was! Angel. The version I knew and loved from my broke uni student days! The EXACT scent I’d been looking for. On my jumper. 3 days later! (Can we say beast mode, I think we can!)
I did a bit of research about why the perfume smelled spicy and was top-note dominant for the first 12-24 hours, before settling down into absolute perfection. and learned that my particular bottle of Starburst must have been very new, and freshly bottled then sent to me. My research turned up the concept of “maceration”, apparently perfumes need a little bit of time for the ingredients to get to know each other and settle. (Kind of like marinating chicken overnight in the fridge so it absorbs the flavour of the herbs and spices you added).
So if you’re an Angel aficionado like me, just be aware that your bottle may be very fresh/new and might need a bit of time (a week or 2) to “marinate” and allow that spicy cardamom top note to settle down and fall into balance with the rest of the perfume instead of overpowering everything else.
Now, having worked out that the exact smell I was looking for was genuinely hiding in that bottle of Starburst, but just needed time to come out, I re-ordered a second bottle. I felt confident enough to repurchase a bottle I’d JUST sent back due to several factors:
-The easy and seamless returns policy, the whole process was done through the website, no questions asked, no hoops to jump through. I just indicated I wanted to return the bottle and that was it.
-The incredible staying power of the perfume itself. Even when I was battling that cardamom top note, I was impressed by how long the perfume lasted on my clothes and on my skin. I could still clearly smell the perfume on my jumper 3 days later and on my wrists the next morning after a shower. I repeat, this fragrance survived a shower. It was subtle/faint, but it was absolutely still detectable and still very recognisable as Angel the next day.
-The fact that the Aerre team sent me a 15% coupon code thanking me for my original order, despite the fact that I returned the bottle.
Kudos to the Aerre team for such great customer service and for making such a great product. I’ve since purchased more bottles (my current collection so London City Lights, New Beginnings, Starburst, and Summer Reverie) and have another order on the way.
I’m ordering bottles as gifts for friends and family and every-time someone compliments me on how nice I smell, I proudly tell them it’s Aerre and point them to the website. I very much DON’T believe in gatekeeping, sharing is caring.
PS. The other bottles I’ve ordered are all incredibly close to the original inspiration, I’d easily rate them as 95% accurate or better. The only difference is that I find New Beginnings (Love Don’t Be Shy by Killian) and London City Lights (HER by Burberry) to be MORE concentrated and longer lasting than the originals, which is not a bad thing in anyone’s book. I find Starburst (Angel) to have pretty much identical longevity to the original, and anyone who’s smelled the original Mugler fragrance knows how long it sticks around. I’d routinely have a piece of clothing that smelled like the Mugler scent a week after spraying it with a SINGLE spritz!
I’ll be posting a full, more detailed review under my other order, but I wanted to try and include as much detail in this to hopefully be helpful to someone else who is considering this same scent. I found a lot of helpful and useful online reviews and hopefully I can help someone else make an informed decision about this as well.

Angel was one of the first “real” perfumes I ever owned and has always been a “nostalgic” favourite. This one smells 98% identical. The difference is so slight I think it is just that some notes in Starburst comes through a little more! I bought 6 and tested them all before I walked into work so I was an assault on everyone’s senses! Lasted probably 6 hours of my 12 hour shift!

As soon as I sprayed this perfume I fell in love. The likeness to Angel was subtle, but definitely there. In fact, I liked it better than the original.
